Update August 2007
Dear Friend of Missions,
This is one of the best and most encouraging trips I have ever made in terms of quality and quantity of the fruit of many years of labor.
Right from the first service, students and members of the community came expecting great things from God. You could see the hunger and reverence for God all over, in their eyes, general body language, participation in singing, etc. The service was broadcast live via Christian radio.
What a blessing it was to participate in worship with people who are so hungry for Him. They sang lively songs such as:
.Because He lives.
.O Lord my God when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made..
.Blessed assurance Jesus is mine.
and many more
They were singing in the dormitories, classes, buses, and at the chapel. We had chapel service every day, and a full day of in-service training for thirty-eight teachers.
Truly, I was blessed! My heart was gladdened as I looked up to God in thanksgiving and praise for the opportunity. This is the reason we do what we do. It is so rewarding to see the fruits of our labors.
Here is what is going on in Ghana .
¨ God has strategically placed us on a 30 acre property in the fastest growing city with over 4 million people. The demand for Christian education is very high.
¨ 90% of young people of Ghana will not receive a secondary education due to a lack of schools and/or the means to pay.
¨ Due to the moral corruption and falling standards in education, many parents are looking for a Christian school for their children.
This is where Atlantic Wesleyan College comes in. Right now we have 125 students with plans to enroll more than 250 students by September and repeat it every year. In four years we will have 1,000 students on campus. Wow! We can do it!
This is our opportunity to shape the entire nation for Christ. Remember we are focusing on Christian Education?"Training Young People for Global Influence."
Focusing on the Future
Right now, I am making the necessary preparations for our October trip. The team will be going to Nigeria , Cameroon, and Ghana for the Leadership Conference, ?War on AIDS' program, and church evangelism program.
¨ We expect 400 pastors to go out from these training sessions on fire with a new zeal and knowledge of how to do ministry for God in their own countries.
¨ We will conduct outreach in the high schools, where we know we will be speaking to 17,000 students. From our past outreaches we have found that 60% of the students will publicly stand to pray the sinner's prayer. After they receive Jesus Christ, they will go on to publicly take the Vow of Virtue and begin to boldly share this message with others.
¨ There's also the public crusade which hundreds are expected to attend. We have no way of calculating the possible results, but we know many people will be brought into the kingdom.
Let Me Share From My Heart The Reason We Do These Leadership Conferences.
The body of Christ in Africa stands in serious need of balanced Christian training. Most pastors and church leaders are simply unprepared to direct their people in facing their most serious personal and interpersonal problems.
The nation has always looked to the Church to shape the moral standards of the people, and God, through the Holy Scriptures, has given that responsibility to the Church alone.
That is to say that both God and the nation are looking to the Church to teach and preach good morals to the people, challenging them to live a life acceptable to both God and the nation.
The question that rings in our minds is; how well is the Church carrying out this divinely ordained responsibility?
The Church of today is in dire need of preachers who bear heavy burdens for the salvation of men, and who do not count their lives dear unto themselves. Men and women who can be "all things to all men that they may by all means win some." Preachers who will preach, pray, and obey God regardless of the consequences.
We need preachers cultured enough that their personalities will not hinder them from being channels for shaping the moral lives of the people. We need preachers simple enough for the understanding of the children and spiritual enough to minister successfully to our old people. More especially, there is a need for preachers who can measure arms, so to speak, with men and women in professional and business life, and who can yet measure out the simple gospel to the denizens of the slums.
This type of preacher is not produced by accident. People who attempt to meet the above standard without training are like men going to war without preparation. Every profession relies on education to make the difference between its members achieving solutions or causing more problems. Likewise, proper education for the preaching ministry can make the difference between richly blessing or unscripturally distressing, the people.
So above all other callings, it is important that preachers be properly prepared because they are daily involved with an eternal responsibility; working with God in restoring men and women to the original image of God. If the Church is to ever succeed in producing preachers who fight effectively against the massive attacks of the enemy upon the moral standards of the people and the nation, the need for leadership training can not be overemphasized.
The importance of leadership conferences is obvious, especially in nations where theological education is almost non-existent. Everywhere you turn in the far corners of the Church world, you will certainly see the need. It is one thing to acknowledge the need and another thing to take action to face it squarely.
I Think You And I Can Help!
We can encourage these ministers to get training by sponsoring these leadership conferences. They will get the leadership training they need while serving. You can't beat that!
Note; the Church cannot be stronger than her pastor; and the pastor cannot give more than what he/she has. If we will not help, we should not complain about the effectiveness of ministry.
The Leadership Conference is important as long as it is equipping ministers who will effectively discharge their divine responsibility to the people. As this succeeds, the Church, the nations and God himself will be happy and rejoice over a job well done. The effect will be noticeable by the changes made in all quarters of life.
I have taken time to write this long letter to let you see what I see and feel what I feel.
I need your support and encouragement as I travel, bringing the gospel of Jesus to the lost sinners of Africa and training for the leaders who need it so much, as well as snatching children from the dungeon of HIV/AIDS.
If you can go, I invite you to join us on one of these trips. If you cannot go, please pray for us and support us financially. We need the best gift you can give right now.
Your generous gift of all or any part of the whole amount will help us keep moving forward on plans for this October event!
