DID YOU KNOW?

Most widows in Africa don't remarry especially when they have a male child.  In Africa, the custody of children is not negotiable. They belong to the father. When a widow remarries, she loses everything. including her children. In most cases, widows will stay with their children, though there is no work or trade to help them make a living.

  Family Care
GIVING LOVING CARE TO HURTING FAMILIES

The Family Care Program is designed to minister to various needs of families-especially to the widows and fatherless.  One of the major problems in Africa is widowhood.  There are scores of widows in many villages with little or nothing to survive on.  We provide them with a means to begin a petty trading business that enables them to provide for their families.  We provide scholarships for the fatherless, and food supplements for needy families.  By providing them with assistance, we are giving them the opportunity to live healthy lives.

EXAMPLES OF NEEDY FAMILIES:

EYUM OLEKPA'S husband died in 1992 leaving her with three children to care for single handedly. Due to the lack of any reasonable work to do, she finds it difficult to feed, clothe, and train her children. Though things are hard for her, she remains faithful to her God.

LUCY ADANU"I am very, very grateful to God for the help I received from the mission. My husband died in February 2001. Humanly speaking, I became hopeless and helpless. I began to wonder what might become of my four boys and I. I did not know my father or my mother, they both died when I was a little girl. When I remember what I went through as a fatherless and motherless child before I got married, I weep for my children who have no father. When our church leader requested for our family picture, I did not know what it was going to be used for, but one day, he called me and asked me some questions on what I would do to help my family if some money were given to me. After our discussion, he told me that there was some money that was sent from oversea to support my family. Then, he gave me the money to help me begin a trade that will help me provide for my family. By the grace of God, my hopelessness and helplessness went away immediately. In fact, this help has increased my faith. I would say more than this, but I was told to be brief. I can only say thanks to Almighty God, and his blessings on the people who made this gift possible. Right now, I am doing my trade again through which I am supporting my family. Thank you!"

Support a Family or Child

Meet Grace Aduja and her 3 children.  Grace lost her husband on June 3, 2003 after 18 years of marriage.  Grace reports, "When I gave my life to Christ, my husband remained and lived as an unbeliever.  When my husband became sick, he went to the hospital and tested positive for HIV/AIDS.  As a result of his immoral lifestyle he contracted HIV/AIDS and unknowingly gave it to me, I contacted it from him.  He is dead now, leaving me with three children."

Grace, an AIDS victim, is in need of three things, (1) medical assistance, (2) assistance to begin small trading business to enable her feed her children, and (3) scholarship for her children.

Meet Grace Ajara Audu and her six children.  Grace is a faithful child of God.  She is also an AIDS victim.  We had helped her in the past with a one-time medical assistance, of which she is very grateful.  However, treatment for AIDS is received monthly.  Right now she needs more medical assistance, assistance to begin small trading business and possibly scholarship for her children.

These families really need someone who cares.  We will need to raise $4,000 for these widows, ($2,000 for each), to provide one year of medical assistance, one year scholarship for one of the children, and capital to begin a small trading business.  The extent of what we will do for these women depends on what we receive.

You have been gracious and responsive to our appeals.  We need your generous gift to enable us minister to these needy families right now.  Please, consider sending a gift and also pray for these families.    I have provided you with a response form and a return envelope for your response.  Thank you for caring!     For your contribution click on make a donation above.
