Dear Friend of Nigeria,
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." Col. 3:15 (KJV)
Thankfulness and cheerfulness is a matter of choice. However, when one becomes a recipient of the GRACE, his/her knowledge of salvation and freedom, releases in him/her an inner tranquility that is expressed in thankfulness of heart. Therefore, our joy is not based on what we have but on who we have.
I am thankful to God that my name is written in the book of life. I am also thankful for you, your friendship, support, and prayer that enable us do what God has called us to do in Africa.
I just returned from a long trip to Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon. I conducted in-service training for our teachers in Ghana and Cameroon, and spent many hours on administrative work. I felt the hands of God in answer to your prayers for safety, protection, provision, and anointing on my ministry. Thank you for praying!
The trip was special in many ways.
First, I was encouraged and blessed to have the opportunity to travel to Ghana with Mike Morgan, who has been a long time supporter of EBM. He was able to see, first hand, what we are doing in Ghana. In a greeting card he sent to me after he returned from the trip, he wrote, "The burden for Ghana has settled heavily upon me. I anticipate becoming more involved in our work there." What an encouragement! I guarantee, when you visit any of our fields, your burden and involvement will increase.
Second, it was a special blessing to work alongside of our veteran Missionaries Victor and Claudine Chamberlin in training our primary school teachers for effective teaching ministry in Cameroon. The Chamberlin family has done wonderfully well. The work is solid; fruits of the ministry are everywhere, in students, teachers, church members, and parents; the nationals are involved, and the future is great. I was pleased to observe that some of our leaders have learn the essence of servant leadership, and many of them are taking personal responsibility for the expansion of the work of God in their land.
Third, I was touched and the same time blessed at what I saw when I visited Chinyere Silas. Chinyere is one of the widows you helped support. She is doing photographing business to provide daily bread for her 6 children. One of our supporters from Michigan (I wouldn't mention name) is currently sponsoring Marvelous, one of her children.
As I walked around their house, I noticed that there is only one bed for the family of seven. There is hardly anything in the house. At the same time, the family is very happy and thankful for the little we have done to help them to the point of giving me a gift. I was moved to tears. I had the privilege of ministering to all six children as a father figure, and their mother through counseling and prayer.
These are the reasons we do what we do. A cup of cold water to one who is thirsty will help him/her to experience the love of God.
"For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward." (Mark 9:41 KJV)
I believe God is honored when we use our talents and/ or resources to bless humanity, whether in training, discipling national leaders, feeding the hungry, or clothing the naked. Once again, thank you for your support.
Yours in His Service,
David C. Akaji
Vice President for the Africa Region
For your information
- Two months ago, I sent out a plea to help put a roof on Otukpo Church in Benue State of Nigeria. We have not done that job because we are still short of $2,000. We have decided to begin at the end of October with what we have. However, I am afraid to buy woods and not have enough for the zinc to cover it. The woods might be ruined by rain setting us back to square one. Any help towards this projected will be appreciated.
- Also, we need $2,500 for the rent of War on AIDS Center. The rent expires this month. We need help to underwrite this cost.
- The financial need for the Family Outreach to the widows, orphans, children home is on going. We are thankful for the help we receive.
- Remember to check our websites: www.ebminternational.com or http://www.opendoorministries.net/ for updates.
